It’s not just the vastness and depth of the Colca that make it so fantastical, it’s the shifts in its mood. There are more scenery changes along the river canyon's 100km passage than there are in most European countries.

Although it is possible to visit the Colca Canyon any time of year, it's advisable to go between March and June when the condors are most active and the trails are in good condition. The rainy season ends in March, making it an ideal time to begin visiting.

The Lake District is an all-season destination, with an overall temperate, if rainy, climate. Spring and summer, from November to April, are drier months than the winter months but travelers can expect rain at any time. Rain is particularly heavier from May to October and can be very cold.

The drivers don’t speak English and are quite lazy but if you get put with a fun group you’ll make lots of friends on this tour. You visit some pretty cool places over the 3 days (lakes, volcanos, geysers, reach 5,000 meters, the salt flats in Uyuni).
An excellent option for people traveling from Puerto Montt to Puerto Natales (or back), a city which is only 115 km from the Torres del Paine National Park. Instead of making the journey by plane, you can sail across and contemplate the beauty of the Patagonian fjords and its incredible flora and fauna. $450 for 4 days/3 nights.

Every year between June and October up to 3,000 humpback whales appear along Colombia’s western coast to give birth and nurse their young in the warm water. The best places to observe these magnificent mammals are Bahía Solano, El Valle and Nuquí in Chocó, and Bahía Málaga near Buenaventura. El Valle is a great base to organize a trip to the Utría National Park where you can observe whales from land. Tours can be arranged at The Humpback Turtle hostel in El Valle. Alternatively, stay at El Cantil Ecolodge Hotel in Nuquí where you can see whales jumping while having lunch.
